LAPD Officers Deadly Shooting of Machete Carjacker Maniac

Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) released bodycam video Tuesday of a suspect who chased police with a machete and was fatally shot as he loomed above an officer with his long blade raised over his head.

The incident occurred after a man wielding a machete had just robbed an auto parts store in Hollywood, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“He walks in and goes over to the batteries and he grabs one, then he walks over to the door and he slams it on the ground and pulls out the machete and he threatens and swings it at us,” AutoZone employee Juan Chaidez told KTLA. “Then he grabbed the battery and runs away.”

Police said the man – later identified as 22-year-old Nathanial Pinnock – went from the robbery to a nearby Chick-fil-A restaurant on Sunset Boulevard and carjacked a drive-thru customer in a Lexus, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“They kind of gave him a second to surrender, but he high-jacked a car and then the driver hops out of the car, and that’s when he hopped over to the driver’s seat and that’s when he drove off,” Gunnels said.

That officer was extremely lucky that there were others on the scene. Once he was on the ground, he was done.

Lucky? Why the hell didn’t he shoot him before he got that close. Damn sure can’t call this bunch of cops trigger happy. Bean bag my arse!

Admirable restraint by the LAPD.

Folks are going to see what they want to see in this video. Our “friends” on the political left will tell you that this was exactly the way good policing should work.

However, from my perspective, the LAPD foolishly allowed an armed man to roam the streets and threaten citizens with deadly force, while they played SJW patty cakes with him. I have no problems with using less-than-lethal force, but when an ARMED suspect refuses to halt, resists in spite of bean bags and tasers deployed, and begins to flee, he needs to be shot and put down immediately. He had already threatened citizens during the original robbery. That, plus the machete in his hand, was sufficient probable cause and justification to use deadly force. Hind sight is 20/20, most assuredly, but this sort of policing doesn’t “just happen” dynamically. It was as a result of left-wing policing policy, and from that, LAPD training.

Many folks will certainly disagree with me, and some vehemently so, but they can’t tell me that they wished it was their son in the Lexus facing down the armed man, instead of officers. They can’t honestly tell me that they’re happy with the way the LAPD handled this incident, if it had been their son or daughter in uniform, on the ground, with his/her hands and arms raised above his/her head as the man with a machete wound up to decapitate them, when it could have been the suspect on the ground and in custody instead, dead or alive.

Good on the LAPD, and their brave officers, for doing a tremendous job in this case. Bad on the City of Los Angeles, and the State of California, for forcing them to do their job that way, and to nearly lose a police officer in the process.

Never bring a knife to a gunfight.

Deadly force was imminent the minute the machete wielding man approached the police.

Jester

Totally down with your sentiment. Why not throw Nerf balls at him while your at it, holy crap. That final officer is VERY lucky, if that last shot didn’t take him down there would likely be a dead cop on the street all so the PoPo can say they used restraint. Body cams were enough and would have totally showed the justification needed to smoke him.

master of sinanju

You say admirable, I say STUPID! No WAY IN HELL would I have let it get that far. I HAVE been there DONE that!! When he got into that car I would have lit him up. He could have very well would harm/kill the motorist. There was justification for LETHAL force more than once in that video. Now youngster cop, I dont know how many times he shot the perp, how many rounds hit ( IF any) I have read reports about cops shooting DOZENS of rounds and hitting JACK$HIT!! STRESS TRAINING SHOULD BE A REQUIREMENT !!! And no I am not talking about those projected scenarios, I mean low light, ACTUAL sensory input, visual/audio, etc.

As a retired military man, 22 years in law enforcement, your assessment of this situation is absolutely correct. This sjw/pc nonsense ultimately will end in the deaths of numerous innocent civilians as well as police officers. As far as I’m concerned, he should have been taken out at the moment he started the carjacking, but understanding a major consideration of safety to driver of carjacked vehicle and bystanders. He was allowed to cover way to much ground and creating the possibility of many more injured or even killed people. I even noticed in the officers body cam audio, he actually catches himself from saying MF and just said “mother”. All because he knows the way the current attitude towards law enforcement is “anti police” and “pro criminal”. This outrageous attitude was fomented by and fostered during the obama administration.

Retired leo here, I agree 110% with your comment!! When i was still active and we would have to qualify, if on an armed post 4 times a year or non armed post yearly. A LOT of cops SUCK and some barely qualify, but for them as long as they qualify (barely) that is good enough for the dept ( we have approximately 600 to 700 officers at my institution). I along with a HANDFUL of other officers would go out on our OWN and practice, I helped set up our own training and scenarios shoot/dont shoot. I would introduce stress: noise, honking horns, whistles, bird bombs, firecrackers, yelling ,screaming, active/reactive targets, targets that would advance on you and NOT stop UNTIL you put a round in the “triangle” etc.( It helped one our officers had family with a few acres where we set up our little range) Along with speed reloads combat reloads UNDER stress, time constraints. And this was with revolvers, we didnt transition to semi autos till about 5 years ago. Some of my group told me later they were glad we did that additional training on our own , because the dept. was just starting to introduce baby steps stress training.

That guy was shot several times and still did not drop. He was definitely on some type of drug. I’ve seen this type of behavior before in the 70’s. It was usually cocaine or PCP laced marijuana and while in that state beatings or bullets didn’t work until some fatal spot was hit. This guy hardly reacted to tasers. I am glad the officer wasn’t seriously hurt.

My exact thoughts. once he squared then started to come at the officer, he should have fired. Yes, IF they wont stand up for themselves and each other, they wont stand up for you either!! I have been sued by scumbags when they claimed I used “excessive force” and when I have shot them. It caused me no small amount of stress,BUT I KNEW I was in the right EACH and EVERY time I did what I did. Evidence bore that out. I didnt just get put through the wringer by the scumbags, but also by my “superiors” QUESTIONING if that was the only way I could have handled it. I POLITELY asked them if they were not there how did they KNOW I didnt handle it correctly? Arm chair quarterbacking and the luxury of TIME that they had that I didnt when SHTF. And I have been reprimanded with the reprimand later being expunged when the higher ups were in the wrong.

There are a lot of police officers that go to the same range I do. There are a few who take their shooting seriously but there, are also a few who look at it as an unpleasant chore. There is one who comes and brings his service pistol and four magazines. He fires all four magazines at one stationary target as quickly as possible and then tosses it all in a bag and leaves. He’s usually there about five minutes tops. We all just shake our heads a laugh when he leaves.

What’s with these cops and their poor training? How many times does it need to be said that someone within 20 feet can easily close on you and strike you? Backpedaling while firing, then falling, could have ended badly, not just for the officer, but someone else via a stray bullet. Dude has a machete and he’s running at you, start firing at 40 feet and keep firing until he drops or you empty the magazine.

master of sinanju

Easy answer, training costs MONEY!!! Plus you have to HIT what you are shooting AT!! Lets face it most cops are lazy bastards and bastardettes. They BARELY qualify when at the the range, meh no big deal to them UNTIL if and WHEN that life altering scenario becomes REALITY!! Hell look at all the fat overweight goobers on a typical police force. Even when departments offer physical fitness incentive pay, some cops just take the money and dont do crap, my department USED to make you EARN that check ( fu(king union) now you just get it if you are breathing.

The police in California and New York are put in harms way by these leftist states so badly. You wield a machete in public, you get lead from the get go. Not bean bags.

“… A male suspect …” tells you everything you need to know. Almost. This individual was enormous. Beanbags got him hopped up. The officer deserved rules of engagement the opposite of these.

This is Rodney King in complete reverse. These officers showed extra ordinary, extraordinary restraint.
