McConnell trashes Pelsoi on Senate floor
Mitch McConnell says the articles of impeachment the House is set to send over “is not about the nuances of foreign assistance to Eastern Europe. This has been naked partisanship all along.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday ripped House Democrats and made the case for the upper chamber acquitting President Trump as he waits for the articles of impeachment to be transmitted.
McConnell, speaking from the Senate floor, did not directly call for senators to vote to acquit Trump but argued that senators cannot follow the House’s lead and agree that the president deserves to be impeached and ultimately removed from office.
“Speaker Pelosi and the House have taken our nation down a dangerous road. If the Senate blesses this unprecedented and dangerous House process by agreeing that an incomplete case and subjective basis are enough to impeach a president, we will almost guarantee the impeachment of every future president. This is the kind of anti-democratic recall measure that the founding fathers explicitly, explicitly did not want.”
