And the cops actually enforce the laws up there where the more affluent people live. Thank you police. I have you friends (30s) that live on the border between Oakland and Emeryville and the get woken up every night by either

When I commanded a transportation company in Frankfurt in the (very) early ’80s, my First Sergeant was of German descent and grew up in Frankfurt. He was pre-teen during WWII and lived through the NAZZI era. He explained that – at least in Frankfurt – joining the H!tler-Youth was pretty much the equivalent of what we considered the Boy Scouts at the time – you just did it. He described going through the rubble from bombings in Frankfurt looking for body parts: he was too young and small for anything other than “parts”.
When his mother found out he had joined the H-Y, she scolded him and yanked him out. He was likely too young to understand things at the time but old enough to recount to me going through the rubble to pick out body parts.
He eventually befriended the U.S. occupying forces through internal refugee camps, became an American citizen and enlisted in the U.S. Army. We had wonderful discussions about life back then. When I asked if he would show me where he grew up he would sadly shake his head and say there is nothing recognizable that he could show. He was a GREAT 1SGT with a wonderful sense of humor, but also a walking history book. I might add he wound up being my personal translator when we went into town.
As with everyone else in my Company, I don’t know became of him when I left for the U.S., but he was approaching Army retirement eligibility by then. He was a patriot.

OK, I normally don’t post anything about my health issues, BUT man did I have a “unique” experience this past Tuesday!
Going try to keep this as short as possible.
I had a couple of stents put in my right leg, 6 weeks after the same procedure in my left leg.
After going through all the registration processes, I was wheeled into the operating room. As they were prepping me, the anesthesiologist asked me my name, then my birthday. Then the fun starts…..he asked “Are you allergic to anything?”
Without hesitation I responded “Just Democrats”.
The guy yelled out “My Man…MY MAN!!!!” LOL! He then asked his associates if they heard what I said….they all replied “OH YEA!!!”
He then told me “You are going to be in great hands today!” Through the anxiety, I was smiling ear to ear!!!
THEN…….in the recovery room a nurse was applying pressure to the incision. Once the bleeding stopped, she walked away, telling me she would be back in 5 minutes. Right on time she came back…………….except this time she had a concerned look on her face. She started calling for another nurse, then another and another. As they all got in my room the looks on their faces alarmed me big time. As it turned out, I had a severe bleed-out in just those few minutes!
They spent the next few hours applying tremendous pressure to the incision, aka my groin area! They were inflicting severe pain on me…..as they took turns with applying pressure they apologized for the discomfort they were causing. Man, they made me groan and whimper. What a trip!!!!
They finally got the bleeding stopped….then a short time later I was allowed to stand up, then go pee. I turned around to look where I had been laying…..my eyes said “OMG!” I had never seen so much human blood in one place in my life! I attempted to take a pic of it, but before I could get my phone they had snatched up the bed linens. To be honest, I am quite surprised I didn’t need a transfusion.
The other shocker was the next day……….I saw that my whole groin area was completely black,,,,even the unit!!!
To finish this long, short story, I am doing fine….other than the visuals!
What an experience!!!!

We can bleed quite bit and still be ok, are you on blood thinners normally ? they cause excess bleeding, obviously.

Waldo, I do take a blood thinner, but even so Ive never been a bleeder. They take blood samples, then put a small bandage on the hole. When I remove it later there is hardly a spot on the gauze.
That’s why I was so shocked.

Jim, I am doing OK.
The prognosis for AML is not great, Generally a 37% chance of 2 year survival.
My docs have me at 41% after the first round of chemo, and are cautiously optimistic.
I have another 6 day in-patient chemo coming up as soon as they can schedule a room,
that round of chemo is supposed to be less intense, then two days out-patient oral chemo that is for
a “lucky” mutation I have that allows for the meds, the two treatments of IV and oral adds a few survival percentage points, THEN another bone marrow biopsy which tells us if real remission or not. if not do it all over again, until too weak to continue. THEN a possible discussion of Bone Marrow transplant which is a difficult option (or not) -if remission then a good 50/50 I make it 5 years -constant monitoring for relapse.
even then relapse has options, it all depends on how strong I can stay during it all.
I am home, just got “discharged” from home PT goals met, can barely walk, but have a cane for later in the day (as I tire easily these days) Hair is slowly growing back but the 2nd round of chemo may nix that LOL
Feeling positive currently, the next few treatments and TIME will tell if I have more than a year or two.
a stray infection is what screws most AML patients, and I have developed Afib heart issues, and My O2 can drop out without warning, but hasn’t since they released me, Lots of home visiting nurses, and they will soon set me up with telehealth where I have to report my vitals 2x a day.
Tons of specialists, and DR visits in my near future, it’s a full time job scheduling and arranging transportation. First up is a review of my meds with my primary, I have a huge daily med box and takes 15 minutes to swallow them all twice a day.
In all it’s better than 2.5 months ago which was hours… so… the hard part is it can change for the positive or negative rather fast…my hemoglobulin is till not where it should be, already had multiple transfusions during round 1, something like 17 units, and predictably MORE in the coming weeks.

I had a couple of stents put in my right leg, 6 weeks after the same procedure in my left leg.
After going through all the registration processes, I was wheeled into the operating room. As they were prepping me, the anesthesiologist asked me my name, then my birthday. Then the fun starts…..he asked “Are you allergic to anything?”
Without hesitation I responded “Just Democrats”.
The guy yelled out “My Man…MY MAN!!!!” LOL! He then asked his associates if they heard what I said….they all replied “OH YEA!!!”
He then told me “You are going to be in great hands today!” Through the anxiety, I was smiling ear to ear!!!
THEN…….in the recovery room a nurse was applying pressure to the incision. Once the bleeding stopped, she walked away, telling me she would be back in 5 minutes. Right on time she came back…………….except this time she had a concerned look on her face. She started calling for another nurse, then another and another. As they all got in my room the looks on their faces alarmed me big time. As it turned out, I had a severe bleed-out in just those few minutes!
They spent the next few hours applying tremendous pressure to the incision, aka my groin area! They were inflicting severe pain on me…..as they took turns with applying pressure they apologized for the discomfort they were causing. Man, they made me groan and whimper. What a trip!!!!
They finally got the bleeding stopped….then a short time later I was allowed to stand up, then go pee. I turned around to look where I had been laying…..my eyes said “OMG!” I had never seen so much human blood in one place in my life! I attempted to take a pic of it, but before I could get my phone they had snatched up the bed linens. To be honest, I am quite surprised I didn’t need a transfusion.
The other shocker was the next day……….I saw that my whole groin area was completely black,,,,even the unit!!!
To finish this long, short story, I am doing fine….other than the visuals!
What an experience!!!!
We can bleed quite bit and still be ok, are you on blood thinners normally ? they cause excess bleeding, obviously.
The bruising will go away, after all the color changes.

any major changes, get yourself back in asap. You know the drill.

Waldo, I do take a blood thinner, but even so Ive never been a bleeder. They take blood samples, then put a small bandage on the hole. When I remove it later there is hardly a spot on the gauze.
That’s why I was so shocked.

Jim, I am doing OK.
The prognosis for AML is not great, Generally a 37% chance of 2 year survival.
My docs have me at 41% after the first round of chemo, and are cautiously optimistic.
I have another 6 day in-patient chemo coming up as soon as they can schedule a room,
that round of chemo is supposed to be less intense, then two days out-patient oral chemo that is for
a “lucky” mutation I have that allows for the meds, the two treatments of IV and oral adds a few survival percentage points, THEN another bone marrow biopsy which tells us if real remission or not. if not do it all over again, until too weak to continue. THEN a possible discussion of Bone Marrow transplant which is a difficult option (or not) -if remission then a good 50/50 I make it 5 years -constant monitoring for relapse.
even then relapse has options, it all depends on how strong I can stay during it all.
I am home, just got “discharged” from home PT goals met, can barely walk, but have a cane for later in the day (as I tire easily these days) Hair is slowly growing back but the 2nd round of chemo may nix that LOL
Feeling positive currently, the next few treatments and TIME will tell if I have more than a year or two.
a stray infection is what screws most AML patients, and I have developed Afib heart issues, and My O2 can drop out without warning, but hasn’t since they released me, Lots of home visiting nurses, and they will soon set me up with telehealth where I have to report my vitals 2x a day.
Tons of specialists, and DR visits in my near future, it’s a full time job scheduling and arranging transportation. First up is a review of my meds with my primary, I have a huge daily med box and takes 15 minutes to swallow them all twice a day.
In all it’s better than 2.5 months ago which was hours… so… the hard part is it can change for the positive or negative rather fast…my hemoglobulin is till not where it should be, already had multiple transfusions during round 1, something like 17 units, and predictably MORE in the coming weeks.
